After the first full week of starting my APPE Rotation with Julie
Johnson at MPhA, I have learned and observed many skills needed in developing
and operating an association.
During the last few days, I have attended and participated in a variety
of committee meetings and other meetings to learn what is happening and
occurring throughout the association.
These meetings have included a Board of Director’s meeting, an Executive
committee meeting, Professional Affairs committee meeting, and an Editorial
Advisory committee meeting. All of
these experiences have proven how important communication and listening to each
other speak are when trying to accomplish a goal or task.
Attending these meetings has opened my eyes to the number of people
involved and efforts needed to pull everything together. Attending the Board of Director’s
meeting was inspiring to see how volunteer pharmacists from the community and
student pharmacists can stay involved as an active member. The annual meeting is coming up in the
next few weeks, so learning about the events and speakers attending is
inspiring, so that we are able to continue learning and stay up to date with
what is happening throughout the profession of pharmacy. Although it is only the end of my first
week, I have to say I was most engaged in the Editorial Advisory committee
meeting because I have never attended a meeting or event such as this and it pertains
to the journal, which will reach all pharmacists this coming fall. I think the updates and face lift to
the MPhA journal will help to spread the word about MPhA and what the
association does and means to all pharmacists throughout the state of
Minnesota. Within the next 5
weeks, I hope to publish an article and help write a variety of pieces. I am definitely looking forward to the
rest of my time with Julie at MPhA.
